Education and Standards Committee

TERMS OF REFERENCE

Purpose

To address and attend to matters of education training and continuing professional development thereafter relating to the interests and development of corporate members the Society and to thus deliver a key aspect of the Society as a professional institution and learned body.

Accountability

The Committee is accountable to the Council of the Society.

Authority

To make decisions and take measures in furtherance of policy approved by Council in matters of education and training.

Tasks

1. To collect information relating to academic courses on safety and reliability and assess their relevance to the Society’s aims.

2. To act as a source of information and advice to Society members, individuals and organisations having interests in safety and reliability education, training and development throughout their careers.

3. To establish contact with academic establishments and to promote and foster the development of the teaching of safety and reliability courses in those establishments.

4. To establish, operate and maintain a system for the approval of courses in safety and reliability technology.

5. To propose and operate a policy for managing the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of the Society’s membership.

6. To establish contact with, organisations having interests in Education and Training in relevant areas and represent the Society.

7. To maintain a list of Society members who are willing to offer lectures for education, training or public relations purposes.

8. To provide the Treasurer with details of financial transactions.

9. To submit annual budget estimates to the Finance and General Purposes Committee in April.

10. To submit a written annual report to the office one month prior to AGM, for inclusion on the “Yearbook” area of the website and/or in the Annual Report Journal

11. To report to Council on the financial and technical progress of its activities at each Council meeting.

12. To advise M&G and ERC Committees on the relevance of courses and qualifications of applicants seeking membership.

Membership

Committee Chairman; a Committee Secretary; a minimum of 3 Members

Note: The committee will maintain an appropriate balance between academic and industrial interests within the membership of ETPDC.
