Three New Associate Editors Join Safety and Reliability Journal

The Safety and Reliability Society is delighted to welcome three new associate editors to our Safety and Reliability Journal.

Mike Sleath is experienced in Reliability, Maintainability, Integrated Logistic Support and Safety Engineering, gained through working in a range of environments including general military, aerospace, maritime, and commercial businesses.  Mike has also been closely involved with aircraft safety evaluation for the MOD, necessitating thorough evaluation of manufacturers’ safety cases and other arguments.  Outside work Mike has always been committed to road safety and understanding of the human factors involved with all transport safety; this has given Mike a strong desire to ensure realism and common sense in all safety-critical designs.  Mike said “he is looking forward to joining the editorial board, reviewing and contributing content to forthcoming issues of the Journal”.

Paul Caseley is a Dstl Senior Fellow and in the Ministry of Defence and advises on science, technology and engineering research related to software dependent mission, security and safety related systems. Paul is interested in new science, technology and engineering research for risk, reliability and safety particularly where it impacts emergent challenges such as networks, cyber and autonomy. Paul said “he is particularly looking forward to getting involved with supporting the editing of some of the special themed issues that are currently in various stages of planning”.

Peter Sheppard, currently a Technical Director with WSP has 40 years’ experience in the railway signalling industry, with the last 33 years spent specialising in the safety of products and systems as either a safety engineer or independent assessor.  He has been involved in the introduction of several novel systems to the UK railway and was also a member of the UK committee drafting the forerunner to EN50128: Railway applications – Communication, signalling and processing systems – Software for railway control and protection systems. Peter said “Safety and Reliability is converging across many sectors, for example autonomous vehicles used in aerospace, rail, marine and automotive. I see this journal as an important vehicle (no pun intended!) in sharing knowledge and good practice across all sectors and industries to reduce the number of potentially painful lessons that have to be learnt in the introduction and evolution of new technologies”

The Safety and Reliability Journal accepts technical and academic papers and articles concerned with risk, reliability and safety. In 2018 the Journal will publish individual papers and special themed issues dedicated to a particular topic.
