Public Lecture by Prof George Bearfield

Enhancing System Safety:  The challenge of the Sandilands tram accident

The Institute of Railway Research, at the University of Huddersfield, invite you to attend a public lecture delivered by visiting Professor of Railway System Safety, George Bearfield.

The lecture will be held:

Thursday 19 April 2018, 6.30pm
University of Huddersfield, Brontë Lecture Theatre 2
Queensgate, Huddersfield, HD1 3DH  (view map)

Professor Bearfield is Director of System Safety and Health at the the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) and responsible for work which supports the rail industry in all aspects of health and safety management and also assurance processes and capabilities.

In this lecture Professor Bearfield, will share his experience on how the challenge can be faced strategically, and in a way which effectively drives the culture change that is ultimately demanded by such accidents.

Lessons from a range of sectors and countries will be discussed and in particular how the mainline railway in Great Britain responded to similar challenges following the train collision at Ladbroke Grove and a spate of other major rail accidents in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

For further details and to register your attendance please visit our Eventbrite page.

The lecture is open to all and is free to attend.  We look forward to seeing you there.
