SaRS Professional Competence Scheme
The Safety and Reliability Society’s Professional Competence Scheme.
Over the last few years the Safety and Reliability Society has sought to build consensus with organisations with common interests. We recognise that the historical fragmentation of our discipline brings about inconsistent approaches to risk management, undermining safety management and safety case regimes. The findings of major investigations like the Nimrod Review (Haddon-Cave), the Buncefield Accident enquiry and the BP Deepwater Horizon investigation highlight these shortfalls. We consider that:
- National standards of safety competence are now required
- A register of competent individuals (experience, education, training) should be provided
With this in mind, the following documents explain how SaRS will carry out this work, and the underlying ethos of the project:
