SaRS is delighted to be bringing you another series of Technical Learning webinars this time on the Basics of Functional Safety. This will be a five part series giving an overview on the various aspects of Functional Safety and compliance with international standards and responds directly to topics requested from the previous webinar feedback forms. The series will be presented by experts from Engineering Safety Consultants (ESC) Ltd.

In Part 1 there will be an introduction to the basics of Functional Safety, the challenges of implementing a Functional Safety Management System (FSMS) and its relationship to the different stages of the Functional Safety Lifecycle, as well as the challenges of implementing the management system in a real environment. The webinar will cover:

  • Stages of the Functional Safety Lifecycle
  • Functional Safety management requirements as per IEC 61508
  • “What a FSMS looks like in practice”
  • The challenges of implementing a FSMS

Part 1 will be presented by William Cowdroy. William specialises in Functional Safety Management (FSM), with significant experience supporting clients through all phases of the IEC 61511 SIS Safety Lifecycle. William is also an experienced Functional Safety Assessor, providing an independent judgement as to whether the requirements of IEC 61511 and/or IEC 61508 have been achieved. William has developed and delivered functional safety training courses, covering common pitfalls and best practices associated with activities from each phase of the lifecycle, based on experiences from Functional Safety Assessments (FSAs) across a range of industries. William has also delivered broader risk management and process safety projects, utilising his process engineering background.
