It is the norm in the nuclear industry for Deterministic Safety Assessment to be the main influence on ALARP decisions rather than relying heavily on Probabilistic Safety Assessment. However, as Deterministic Safety Assessment can often be carried out in an extremely conservative manner, are balanced ALARP decisions being taken? Rolls-Royce is pursuing a number of approaches to safety cases and supporting safety assessments that are challenging the norm through a greater understanding of the risk associated with Deterministic Safety Assessment. The talk will describe examples and the challenges faced with gaining approval from regulators.
Note that there is no longer access to Moor Lane from Victory Road.
From the A38 on the west side of Derby take the ring road A5111 around the south of the city to get to Moor Lane.
