It is with regret that we inform you of the passing of Rear Admiral (Retd.)Paul Thomas CB, FREng, FCGI, BSc(Eng), MSc, CEng, FIMechE, Hon FNucI, FSaRS

Paul served a full career in the Royal Navy serving in a large range of postings in the submarine service and shore establishments reaching the rank of Rear Admiral.  He then moved to the civilian nuclear sector where served as Engineering Director at AEA technology before becoming director of Environment Health and Safety for British Nuclear Group.  This was followed by a move to head the Rail Safety Standards board and serving in non-executive roles for several major nuclear operators.

Paul epitomised the cross sector nature of high hazard safety, he transferred his skills, knowledge and understanding to great effect.  Those privileged to work with Paul will recall his leadership skills, his enthusiasm for learning, his ability to encourage at all levels and will have benefited greatly  from the time they spent with him.  He will be fondly remembered and missed across a range of industries and sectors where he made significant contributions.

Our thoughts are with his family and many friends at this time.
